HiBnb Enters Partnership With SUPERHOG To Help Eliminate Stigma of Cannabis Use in Short-Term Rentals

By Jon Wiederhorn

Two leading voices spearheading the struggle to destigmatize the use of cannabis in the rental market have joined forces to educate and enlighten potential hosts.

SUPERHOG, the leading global digital trust platform for the vacation rental industry and HiBnb, which has been credited for “putting Canada on the cannabis tourism map” and seeks to do the same in the United States, are working together to alleviate concerns some still have about renting space to cannabis. One of the major incentives they’re offering renters is insurance for up to $1.7 million Canadian to cover any property and liability damage that takes place during a rental.

Elizabeth Becker, the founder of HiBnb says that eliminating stereotypes and reducing the stigma many have placed on cannabis users are two of her company’s primary goals. And in the coming years, HiBnb, which connects marijuana users with property renters, hopes to enlighten millions of people across North America by reinforcing the reality that those who use cannabis are far more self-aware, tidy, eco-friendly, and illuminated than stereotypes suggest.

“Though we know the cannabis community we serve is vastly responsible, potential hosts sometimes have unwarranted concerns because of the unfair stigma that has existed around cannabis use for so long,” Becker says. “We’re here to change all that!”

SUPERHOG’s COO and co-founder Andrew Boldt vouches for the reliability of HiBnb users and is willing to put their money where their mouth is. “Home-sharing is about inclusiveness, community, and experience, with HiBnb being a prime example of this,” Boldt says. “SUPERHOG is always keen to work with businesses whose aim is to bring communities together and in particular keep those communities safe. SUPERHOG’s partnership with HiBnb reinforces the common goal both companies share in making the vacation rental a safe and trusted environment.”

HiBnb’s partnership with SUPERHOG should ease any reservations participants have about making rooms available to cannabis users by offering guarantees that no harm will come to their rental spaces. All HiBnb users, Becker emphasizes, are fully vetted. Before they’re accepted they must pass a mandatory screening and verification on the site. Now, with the help of SUPERHOG, hosts are guaranteed with $1.7 million Canadian in property damage with a low minimum claim, and the same amount for liability in case guests have an accident.

“For us, this is a real game-changer,” Becker says. “It will help potential hosts who aren’t familiar with the cannabis community be more comfortable, allowing them to host wonderful people of all ages looking for a little slice of home away from home!”

For any hosts concerned about visitors smoking in their rooms – an act many renters have no problem with – Becker emphasizes that renters can contract with visitors to only smoke in specified smoking areas. They can also require that smoking take place outdoors on the property (you’ll never feel the need to hide around the corner to smoke that joint). Some clients offer rolling stations or tabletop vaporizers. Some accommodation hosts go the extra mile and provide guests with cannabis or edibles on-site when they arrive; others offer connections to nearby cannabis retailers. All accommodation hosts encourage the guest to bring their own cannabis.

“Home-sharing is about inclusiveness, community, and experience, with HiBnb being a prime example of this,” Boldt says. “SUPERHOG is always keen to work with businesses whose aim is to bring communities together and in particular keep those communities safe. SUPERHOG’s partnership with HiBnb emphasizes the common goal that both companies share in making the vacation rental a safe and trusted environment.”

Becker is equally pleased with the partnership. “With the help of SUPERHOG, we able to offer HiBnb Hosts peace of mind that their properties and possessions are safe - guaranteed safe,” she says. “There is no need to collect a security deposit. We are now proud to offer an age-gated online marketplace and a gated real-world community where celebrating cannabis culture is accepted, safe, and legal.”

Becker has been heralded for providing opportunities for cannabis tourists looking for a safe and secure place to use marijuana. Her landscape-changing efforts were recently rewarded when she won the prestigious 2021 SHORTYZ Innovator/ Disruptor Award for representing the international short-term rental industry.
