420 HIKE – Find your own Amethyst! Hike and rockhounding to Amethyst Cove, Nova Scotia.

A challenging yet rewarding hike to Amethyst Cove, NS. Expect steep inclines, a rope descent cascading down a cliff, and a long walk. Not for the inexperienced hiker. Breathtaking views and rockhounding for Amethyst and minerals.

** This Adventure is completely dependent on the time. Scheduling must be done in accordance with tide times for Cape Split. **

A challenging hike to a difficult and elusive place to reach, Amethyst Cove, NS. Expect very steep inclines as you will be hiking up for a while, followed by a rope descent cascading down a 300ft cliff. Part of which is an actual rock climb. The beach is a combination of large difficult to navigate boulders down to sandy sections. Not for the inexperienced hiker.

Breathtaking views of everything in the Minas Basin however. Never ending cliff sides. Some of the best rockhounding in the area, the potential to find your own piece of amethyst is high. The heavier the rock you take back, the heavier your pack will be on your way back up the cliff, so keep that in mind.
I don't like to sugar coat this hike, just as a precaution and to keep everyone safe. But in fact this is my favorite hike in the entire province and I do it many times throughout the year.
